“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us most. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in all of us. And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” ~Maryanne Williamson

Accountablilty

Accountability, what a wonderful thing it would be in New London. It seems there are some new and bright spots on the City Council. The Board of Education still seems to be lacking. Two BoE members show up at a City Council Finance Committee meeting when they were all invited. Invited not just to watch but to participate and answer questions. The Superintendent as well was invited. But the Superintendent had far more important business to attend to than the business of the City of NewLondon. Dr. Chris Clouet was at the Hygeinic art show for Waterford students. The Day wrote “Of course, the fact that the downtown gallery was hosting Waterford High School artists drew the attention of Christopher Clouet, New London's superintendent of schools, who wanted in on the action.” Who else thinks the priorities of the Superintendent for New London should be the business of New London. Did Clouet think that the head of the Finance Committee for the City Council just had nothing better to do that evening along with the rest of the City Council?

Point of fact...the Hygienic art show was a NLHS AND Waterford show.

Yes the show was for both schools students. Do you think that makes a difference? Fact Clouet is the Superintendent for New London Public Schools. Fact Clouet makes over $130,000.00 in salary from tax payer money. Fact the Finance Committee invited Clouet to the meeting to answer financial questions about the school plans. Fact Clouet did not show up. Fact Clouet did disrespect the Finance committee Chair, City Council, the process, the taxpayers and citizens of New London by not making this meeting a priority.

If this plan for the schools is so important why was it not important enough for Clouet to show up? It was not even important enough for Alvin Kinsall to be there. Could anyone really conclude that Clouet going to the HYGIENIC for the art show was more beneficial to the students and the City than going to the Finance Committee meeting that he was asked to attend? This is not that difficult to comprehend, just think about the facts.

As a side note does anyone know how the City Council Education Committee went last night?

As someone from Dr. Clouet's family, I can personally say that he only does what he thinks is important. He should have attended the meeting, and he should be continually involved in the City Council. He can be very stubborn and self-centered at times, and this is a fine example.
